"Prime Cuts" on Magna Carta.
A compilation cd/dvd of some great tracks i've done w/BLS, Billy Sheehan, Lonely Bears and others. The real hook for fans who may already have these cuts on original cds is a new track called "sick jazz surgery" that has me playing jazz and rock drums to a soundscape I created in ableton "live" with flute, samples, etc. I play a solo on effected glockenspiele and my new chromatic piccolo toms, as well as some burning drum solos. In addition, it includes some dvd interview footage of my insight and approach to the various tracks.
Well, I have been mixing my dvd of the live show w/Stephen Barber, Chris Maresh, and Tosca Strings. we are almost done and it will be released asap.
I'm also mixing a live solo dvd i did at AMN where i'm actually playing some cover tunes by Miles & Zawinul. this will be edited next and released after the aforementioned dvd.
Also I've played a couple of gigs w/blues master Omar Dykes and the Howlers - always a pleasure to throw a small kit in the back of the car and play the blues! Omar got a new amp and has never sounded better! (and my son sat in on drums w/him on a couple of tunes and really made me feel proud!!)
Also i played a real jazz gig w/bassist Chris Maresh and Spanish sax virtuoso Xavier Vache. (yes, i used brushes !!!) it was very free and most enjoyable.
And I'm working on some transcriptions for some music "5 miniatures" for piano and guitar (or marimba) that will hopefully be played by some capable friends soon.
I also played on a track for guitarist/engineer Mark Younger - Smith that he wrote for a solo band project w/ "The Cult" guitarist Billy Duffy. it sounded great!
And finally (and constantly!) I'm working on my new kit- adding more tuned bass drums and other toys that can be played by a pedal and tweaking the new curvilinear rack to make it cleaner/stronger/better!!
I'll be doing a couple of things in L.A. in April (a record w/Def Leopard's Vivian Campbell) and in May I'll play with Alex Machacek and my dear old friend bassist Doug Lund for a few nights at the baked potato (smaller kit and some "BPM" material ... should be burning!)
Then in late May I begin a tour w/ a band that will surely turn some heads and excite people!! I'll be touring w/ Fantomas (Mike Patton from Faith No More & Melvins' guitarist Buzz Osbourne) rehearsing and one show in L.A and touring Europe june-july.
